A magnetic proximity sensor is composed of two highly magnetically conductive alloy reeds sealed inside a glass tube filled with inert gas. The reeds maintain a certain overlap and gap, and their tips are gold-plated to form contacts. When a magnetic field is strong enough, the reeds attract and close the circuit; when the field weakens, they separate due to their own elasticity.
The switch is activated by magnetic induction. When a permanent magnet approaches and the magnetic induction intensity reaches the required level, the reeds pull together to form electrical conduction. When the magnet moves away and the magnetic field drops, the reeds release and the circuit opens. This enables reliable non-contact switching with quick response.
SUCH magnetic proximity switches are often used for position detection in automation systems, especially when driven by a permanent magnet. They can replace mechanical travel switches to improve system reliability and extend service life. In PLC control systems, they frequently serve as position feedback or limit signals.
