Overview

This multi-depth soil moisture sensor supports RS485 Modbus output, supports selection of 3-layer/5-layer soil multi-data collection, and is powered by a DC 5–30V power supply. The moisture sensor can accurately measure humidity (0–100%) with a resolution of 0.1% and an accuracy of ±2% (0–50%). In addition to moisture and temperature, the soil moisture sensor can also measure conductivity (0~20000µS/cm) with a resolution of 10µS/cm and an accuracy of ±3% FS. Sensor features built-in environmental temperature compensation to ensure consistency in multi-layer soil analysis.

Feature

Multi depth soil moisture sensor features

  • The multi-depth soil moisture sensor can dynamically observe soil conductivity, moisture content, and temperature conditions at different levels.
  • The soil moisture sensor is completely sealed and resistant to acid and alkali corrosion. It can be buried in the soil or directly placed in water for long-term dynamic detection.
  • The electrodes are made of specially treated alloy materials that can withstand strong external impacts and are not easily damaged.
  • The high-precision moisture sensor probe insert design ensures accurate measurement and reliable performance.

Multi Depth Soil Moisture Sensor Usage Steps

Multi depth soil moisture sensor usage steps

  1. Use an earth auger to dig a hole with a diameter of >8 cm vertically.
  2. Rub the extracted soil into fine particles and add an appropriate amount of water to mix into mud.
  3. Slowly pour the mud into the hole: slowly pour in about half of the mud.
  4. Insert the soil moisture sensor vertically into the hole mixed with mud, and the installation is complete.

Salt Accumulation

  1. No salt: Excessive drainage may be present.
  2. Below the root zone: Create a low-salinity zone.
  3. In the root zone: Irrigate with deep water to flush salt from the root zone profile.
  4. In and below the root zone: Irrigation and drainage are needed to remove salt.

Wiring Precautions

  • Output signal: RS485 (Modbus protocol)
  • The power supply can accept a wide voltage range of 5 to 30V.
  • When connecting the RS485 signal lines, make sure that the A and B lines are not reversed.
  • The multi depth soil moisture sensor addresses of multiple devices on the bus do not conflict.

FAQ

Multi-depth soil moisture sensors enable farmers to simultaneously monitor moisture levels in different root zones (e.g., 10 cm, 30 cm, and 60 cm). This provides detailed soil profiles, helping to optimize irrigation schedules, avoid over-irrigation, and increase crop yields.

The moisture sensors are vertically inserted into pre-dug soil pits, ensuring that each probe layer aligns with the target depth. After installation, the soil around the probes must be compacted to ensure good contact. The sensors are connected to a data logger or transmitter via a single cable, facilitating integration into precision agriculture systems or wireless networks.

Yes, the multi-depth soil moisture sensor is suitable for various agricultural environments, including open fields, greenhouses, orchards, and experimental fields. Its sealed waterproof design ensures stable operation in humid or high-humidity conditions. Whether for surface crops or deep-rooted plants, it provides accurate data to support efficient irrigation and soil management.
