Q1: What is the difference between a sunshine duration sensor and a pyranometer?
A sunshine duration sensor records the length of time that bright sunshine occurs. A pyranometer measures global solar irradiance, including both direct and diffuse radiation, usually in W/m².
Q2: Does daylight always count as sunshine duration?
No. Weak sunlight around sunrise, sunset or under heavy cloud may be visible but remain below the sunshine threshold, so it is not counted as bright sunshine.
Q3: Does the sensor count sunshine on partly cloudy days?
Yes. It accumulates each period when sunlight exceeds the threshold. When clouds temporarily block the direct solar beam, the accumulation pauses and resumes when sufficient sunlight returns.
